BBA get ballot underway

Unite has started sending out strike ballot papers to more than 6,000 BAA workers in a dispute over pay.

Unions Prospect and PCS are also balloting BAA staff members on industrial action.

Brendan Gold and Brian Boyd, Unite's national officers for civil aviation, said: "BAA's measly pay offer is nothing short of confrontational.

"Unite and BAA have been in talks for months and we are prepared to continue talking. A negotiated agreement can be reached if the company is prepared to be fairer and more realistic."

According to Unite, BAA staff accepted a pay freeze in 2009, and this year are being offered a 1.5% conditional increase. Staff will also not receive a summer bonus as the company missed its performance targets by 3%.
