Flooding Closes Milwaukee's Mitchell Airport

Milwaukee's main airport has been closed by extensive flooding until at least noon Friday after the city was inundated by heavy rains on Thursday.

The closure of General Mitchell International Airport was due "to flooding on the airfield and roadways leading to the airport," the airport's website said.

On Thursday, storms unleashed up to 7 inches of rain, flooding low-lying areas, halting traffic on a major highway and damaging a school in southeastern Wisconsin, local officials and media said.

A flash flood watch remained in effect through Saturday morning, the National Weather Service said in an advisory, warning of possible widespread flooding.
