Passport booths for veiled women at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Terminal 1

Abu Dhabi Airport Company has recently completed the refurbishment of Abu Dhabi Terminal 1 for which Gate Technologies Ltd provided over 80 counters for check-in, transfer, excess bag payment and currency exchange. In addition 17 double passport booths were installed including 2 for the sole use of veiled women which have automatic obscured glass doors to screen occupants.

The project was carried out in a very short time frame, nevertheless all items of furniture were custom designed to suit ADAC’s unique requirements. The Check-in counters have stainless steel front panels which feature a back lit Arabic pattern and horizontal band beneath a solid granite top. Counters also have folding security gates fitted to the sides so as to close the baggage conveyors when not in use to impede child access.

Gate Technologies participated in the re-planning of the arrival and departures immigration halls and were able to increase the number of operator positions in the passport control booths by 15% as well as adding improved passenger flow and options for wheelchair access.

The passport booths accommodate 2 operators each, have raised floors within and use edge lit signage at the booth centre. Fronts and sides of booths accept removable advertising panels.

Gate Technologies Ltd have now supplied counters of many types to Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at Abu Dhabi International Airport. GTL manufacture counters in the UK but have an established support and maintenance resource in the UAE through their partners Bardawil Aviation.
