Airport Operations
Efficiency Innovated
Surging passenger numbers, changing security requirements, rising costs, and longer lines are all part of the complex challenges facing airport operators trying to maximize efficiency and stay within budget. ARINC is driven to help your airport succeed in transitioning to the forward-thinking, cost-effective technology designed for end-to-end operational efficiency.
We have been intimately involved in supporting airport operations for decades—working closely with government agencies, independent facility operators, carriers, and a host of strategic partners to deliver proven, reliable, and flexible solutions.
AirPlan is an electronic “traffic cop” that continuously tracks aircraft, gate, and concourse availability—connecting multiple workstations, and seamlessly interoperating within the entire airport infrastructure. It automatically schedules gate facilities in near real time. This allows airport personnel to get a step ahead in assigning departure and arrival gates and baggage carousels. The bottom line: aircraft spend less time on the runway burning fuel and passengers spend less time on the ground.
The traveling public keeps its eyes on AirVueTM, our multimedia flight information display system (FIDS) that transmits arrival/departure times, gate assignments and other flight information to wireless devices throughout the airport. The XML-, video-, and Flash-capable technology sends flight data over the airport’s wireless web architecture, allowing passengers to view this vital information anywhere—at the airport, on their PDAs, cell phones, or any other Internet connection.
ARINC’s fully scalable database—AirDB—warehouses daily flight information, gate, belt, and desk assignments, as well as necessary historical data. AirDB interoperates critical architecture and is built to adapt as your needs change.
Airport Security
With decades of experience providing proven, comprehensive solutions for the airports industry, ARINC understands the importance of security in every aspect of operations. It is interwoven into the architectural fabric of airport operations—protecting passengers, employees, information, and infrastructure.
Our passenger processing systems—such as vMUSE™—enhance security by allowing airlines to share vital passenger and baggage information in real time, on high-speed multi-user networks. From traditional check-in, to common-use kiosks, to off-site locations, ARINC assures airlines can access the information they need when they need it, while maintaining the privacy of their passengers.
ARINC’s Identity Management System (IdMS) uses biographical and biometric information to authenticate passenger data, screen employees, and track workers throughout the airport more efficiently and securely than ever before.
Transitioning from 2-D barcode bag tags to RFID tracking significantly increases baggage processing security. Airlines can match bags with passengers anywhere in the airport and beyond, making sure a bag does not get on a plane that a passenger doesn’t. Beyond-line-of-sight tracking and sensing allows bags to be found and rerouted much more quickly than through manual processes.
ARINC also delivers comprehensive Intrusion Detection System (IDS)—fully-integrated with our Advanced Information Management (AIM) system—to provide video surveillance, CCTV, access control, and secure area access management. From analysis and design, to integration, installation, and testing, we offer full life-cycle services optimized and scaled for any size airport.
AviNet—ARINC’s private, highly reliable voice and communications network—provides critical backbone security throughout the entire airport architecture for all messaging, wireless, and broadband services.
Baggage Systems
As an airport operations manager, you're concerned about baggage security and tracking efficiency. Your operation needs to know where each bag is at all times, who it belongs to, and whether loaded bags are matched with a boarded passenger.
ARINC has developed two efficient, integrated baggage systems—BagMatch™ and BagLink™—designed to meet these objectives. These baggage tracking and reconciliation systems use computer-generated tags and readers to track baggage location within the airport, at the gate, and on the plane, and match all loaded bags with passengers.
BagMatch—ARINC's baggage reconciliation and tracking system—uses wireless laser barcode scanners to read printed luggage tags. BagMatch will keep track of every movement of every bag and container in the system. It verifies whether a piece of luggage can be positively matched to a verified, boarded passenger before it's loaded onto a departing aircraft. The interface displays baggage status in real time and allows users to audit information.
ARINC's BagLink enables baggage sorting systems to properly direct baggage to aircraft without delay. BagLink's sophisticated communications server collects baggage-routing messages from multiple airline hosts and distributes the messages to sortation and other airport systems for further processing. BagLink provides the interface between any connected host system and the airport's baggage sortation system and baggage reconciliation system—regardless of which baggage reconciliation system you currently use.
BagLink is highly efficient because it takes full advantage of host lines already in place for passenger departure control and uses MUSE gateways to send and receive baggage messages in standard IATA formats. BagLink has bidirectional traffic capability, so it can support and be integrated with many types of airline host applications.
Aeronautical & Ground Communications
More than 80 years ago ARINC was formed to support the many complex and critical airline communication needs for the burgeoning commercial aviation industry. We have been relied on since the beginning to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions. Today, no one understands aeronautical and ground communications better than ARINC.
ARINC's GLOBALink voice/data communication services provide the flight crew with all the data and information they need to fly safely and efficiently. Using data link, HF, VHF, and satellite technology, GLOBALink allows the flight crew to communicate with the ground wherever they are in the world.
ARINC’s AviNet portfolio of ground communication solutions connect airline and airport operations, integrate legacy and state-of-the-art systems, and provide highly versatile wireless services.
