Our Mission
The Alenia Aeronautica mission is to lead the Finmeccanica aeronautics business with a vision that capitalises on changing global scenarios to create a stream of competencies, to leverage technologies and to enrich the range of proprietary products in strategic markets and emerging business areas. Alenia Aeronautica will uphold the Italian aeronautics manufacturing base to reinforce its role as active participant in an international network of key players, both through its own aircraft and participation in global partnerships. Alenia Aeronautica will deliver products and systems of superior quality and performance to build up a portfolio of intangible assets including competencies in technology, management and entrepreneurship to create synergies among the Finmeccanica companies in the aeronautics business – Alenia Aermacchi, Alenia North America, Alenia Hellas and Alenia SIA, and its main international joint ventures and consortia including ATR, Eurofighter, GMAS and SuperJet International
Technologies
The Alenia Aeronautica position in the global market leverages its mastery of crucial technologies and applying them throughout the product range. To maintain its technological edge, the Finmeccanica aeronautics business invests in research and development almost one-fifth of its revenues. Alenia Aeronautica alone invests over 25%. The wealth of experience is an important company asset for both short term results and sustained competitiveness. Military and commercial programmes constantly exchange best practices and processes. The composite empennage of the ATR regional turboprop benefits from work on the AMX, just as the concept of the Eurofighter’s integral cobonded J-spar is related to carbon-fibre know-how from the Boeing 777.
Network
From Seattle to Athens and from Toulouse to Moscow, Alenia Aeronautica spans the world with its products, partners and facilities. In fact, a commercial or military aircraft built by Alenia Aeronautica, or with its participation, takes off or lands every few seconds. Few companies of comparable size can claim such a broad and diversified presence, which is further extended by the product support network, often with field offices located at the customer’s own operating base. Facilities are increasingly specialised in terms of product and segments, creating true centres of excellence for individual technologies and processes. Alenia Aeronautica and its predecessors have a long history of industrial collaboration and partnership with US industry, from Boeing and Lockheed Martin to the latest joint ventures with L-3 Communications . Today Alenia North America coordinates a presence that also includes a direct manufacturing presence in America. After contributing to bring together European industry through milestone programmes including Tornado, ATR and Eurofighter, Alenia Aeronautica is now using its experience to involve countries including Alenia Aeronautica subsidiaries Alenia Aermacchi and Alenia Aeronavali strengthen the group with their own highly motivated workforce and plants, as well as long-established relationships with dozens of military and commercial operators in every continent.
