Aberdeen Airport expands it's training potential - 26/05/2009
A new pilot project is starting at the Dyce terminal this month, developing training opportunities for industry leaders.Offered through leadership consultants’ On Purpose co-designed with BAA Aberdeen’s Fire Service, the experience is designed to give managers and leaders from across the spectrum of industry a better understanding of the behaviours and trust required to lead within a safety culture.
What makes this course different is the hands-on element to the pilot. Applicants will first go through an in-depth theoretical element through a class-room based study course. All of that will then be taken out onto the fire-training ground where the teams will have to put into practise their teamwork and leadership skills, fighting simulated training fires. It is intended that by introducing a fast-paced and unique practical element, what they have learned will be fully cemented and taken back into the workplace.
There has already been interest from a number of North-East firms, and the pilot will be run with Petro Canada who were keen to get involved from the start.
Graeme Simpson is the company’s ES&SR Manager for North-West Europe. He said, “For us, encouraging safety leadership is a key part of our ongoing drive to reach "Zero Harm" in our operations. This safety leadership training program will engage Petro-Canada participants through a well designed combination of thorough classroom training and stimulating practical exercises.
“We look forward to participating and supporting On Purpose and the Airport Fire Service in their new world class program.”
David O’Neill is the Commercial Training and Fire Manager at the airport. He said, “We have a well established training division at Aberdeen Airport which has been running offshore courses for a number of years now. This partnership with On Purpose really adds another feather to our cap, and is a credit to the teams who have been able to facilitate such a unique and stimulating course.”
The pilot with Petro-Canada takes place at the end of June. There-after the course itself will officially launch in early September.
