COMSOFT: MESANGE Operational at Bordeaux

Last puzzle piece was fitted into ATC modernisation project in France. Operational cut-over turns over a new leaf in aeronautical message handling in the country.

Bordeaux/France, March 2010 – After having successfully completed preoperational tests the French air navigation service provider DSNA announced the swift operational cut-over of their new national aeronautical messaging system MESANGE. The system, fully conformant to the relevant ICAO standards for AMHS, AFTN, CIDIN, and ATN Directory services, was supplied by the German ATM specialist COMSOFT. With the completion of MESANGE, DSNA evolved into one of the best-prepared air navigation service providers in Europe to face the imminent changes of next generation messaging operations from AFTN/CIDIN to AMHS networks.

The centre piece of the MESANGE system is formed by COMSOFT’s benchmark system AIDA-NG, a well-proven integrated AFTN/CIDIN/AMHS system and complementing terminal solution CADAS. Apart from the main system in Bordeaux and a test and development system in Toulouse, the French MESANGE system also encompasses regionally deployed concentrators, bundling aeronautical information such as flight plans from sites spread all over the country to convey them via the X.25 network - and soon via IP - to the main system in Bordeaux.

MESANGE has been a joint project of the French air navigation service provider DSNA and Switzerland’s skyguide amalgamating their expertise and efforts in the joint undertaking of replacing their former solutions. The twin systems comply with latest international standards and are tailored to the sophisticated demands of both customers, while being specifically tuned for best interoperability.

Following the cut-over of the Swiss MESANGE system in Geneva, scheduled for end of March 2010, the next step will be to transfer their bilateral traffic to AMHS.
