Carl Hansen & Son: 100 Years of Craftsmanship

 

Carl Hansen opened his furniture workshop in 1908 and soon became known for the high quality of his work.  In 1949, the company took a chance on the groundbreaking designs of the young Hans J. Wegner.

 

The collaboration led to the legendary Wishbone Chair (CH24) and numerous other high-end designs that are more in demand now than ever. 

 

Hans J. Wegner was one of the most significant furniture designers of the 20th century. He is especially revered for his iconic chairs, but also designed a wide range of other exceptional furniture. 

 

Today, Carl Hansen & Son is Denmark’s – and the world’s – largest producer of furniture designed by Hans J. Wegner. The company has produced Wegner‘s designs without interruption since 1950, and continues to re-introduce selected pieces from the treasure chest of design that he left behind.

 

Hans J. Wegner designed a wide variety of outstanding furniture – some of which was specifically for airports. He created the “Kastrup” series of sofa benches and low tables in 1958 for use in Copenhagen International Airport, in Denmark. The stylish and functional series is still in use there today.
