focus - The Electronic Flight Strip System

focus is available in two versions – a low-cost but high-performance solution (focus SE) especially designed for regional and smaller airports and a highly configurable, multi working position solution (focus) designed for larger airports.

focus SE

  • is an intuitive HMI and allows an easy transition from paper strips
  • optimally supports the handling of VFR traffic by using an internal data base
  • allows an easy connection to airport billing systems and thus avoids time-consuming manual data transfer and media disruptions

focus

  • is an intuitive HMI and allows an easy transition from paper strips
  • displays all traffic information on a single display (IFR, VFR, ground movements, conflicts, …)
  • offers versatile coordination and handover functionality
  • is adapted to the specific needs of each single working position
  • reduces the risk of incidents and accidents by giving warning
  • supports all functions for arrival/departure/surface management systems
  • uses information from various systems (docking guidance system, stand planning system, …)
  • is completely modular and extendable by using all advantages of the A-CDM platform
  • has been proven in operation for many years
Each working position at towers of larger airports has different operational requirements and the airports have their own individual demands. focus covers all these aspects to assist each controller optimally. It is extremely flexible due to the modular design and can be easily adapted. focus is based on 20 years of experience with research, design and development of human machine interfaces for air traffic control.

A new Aerodrome Controller HMI of focus developed in cooperation with DFS, delair and the Institute of Ergonomics of the Technical University Darmstadt has been honoured with two design awards (iF and red dot).

sally – RESOURCE MANAGER

arosa - Airport Performance Management System

  • manages and analyses the airport and the de-icing capacity
  • offers quantitative values about airport and de-icing capacity, demand and punctuality
  • makes proposals for the operational concept
  • analyses the air-to-air process
  • determines target times

arosa is a generic system designed to manage and analyse the airport and de-icing capacity. The complete air-to-air process from entering the terminal area (TMA) until leaving the TMA is taken into consideration holistically in order to guarantee an optimal use of the total capacity.

arosa consists mainly of three components: arosa capman provides quantitative values about the capacity of an airport, demand, punctuality and proposals for the operational concept, and arosa ataman analyses the phases of the air-to-air process, determines target times and synchronises them with actual times.

Based on weather data and the departure demand arosa de-icing provides quantitative values of the de-icing capacity, demand and punctuality. Based on the predicted de-icing capacity at de-icing pads and for on stand de-icing the real de-icing sequences are calculated in a second step.

Integral part of arosa capman and arosa de-icing is a what-if functionality which allows to compare potential scenarios and thus to identify and to use the most suitable sequence.

The planning results in all three components are continuously updated to the current data.

sally - The Airport Resource Management System

  • is easy to use
  • has no limitations in resources, rules and constraints
  • covers the complete planning horizon with the strategic and tactical version
  • can be used for optimisation of hub airports (connecting flights)
  • uses most advanced algorithms with unrivalled performance
  • reduces costs
  • uses all advantages of the A-CDM platform
  • can interact with darts and focus
  • has been proven in operation

Stands, gates, check-in counters, baggage belts/carousels, buses, tow trucks and de-icing trucks are important resources at the airport. sally is the powerful solution to assist long-term, seasonal, short-term and daily planners to get the maximum out of the existing resources.

Highly sophisticated planning and optimisation algorithms are applied to plan the usage of all resources in the optimal way within seconds. The expert system sally uses hard and soft rules to fulfil the customer's requirements. It enables the user to create rule sets for various planning horizons and tasks.

sally is the most flexible and fastest resource management solution on the market and can exchange information like stand conflicts with other A-CDM product suite systems like focus or darts.

focus - ELECTRONIC FLIGHT STRIP SYSTEM

darts-sman - The Surface Movement Management System

  • optimises the use of taxiway and apron systems
  • assists tower, ground and apron controllers in planning and controlling the ground movements
  • improves efficiency and safety of ground movements
  • takes into account all constraints and restrictions
  • uses all the advantages of the A-CDM platform

delair is continuously investing in research and development of future technology. darts-sman is one of these projects. It is an enhancement to the existing and operationally proven darts-aman/dman.

darts-sman closes the gap between arrival and departure management systems. The objective is to optimise the traffic flow of ground movements and to assist controllers with planning information. This helps to organise and plan bottlenecks at the airport, e. g. congested push-back areas, terminal cul-de-sacks, taxiway and runway crossings.

darts-sman also takes into account all information from existing stand and gate management systems like sally. Having more than 20 years of experience with research, development and operation of airport optimisation tools, darts-sman is the obvious next step into the future.

A-CDM - Advanced Collaborative Decision Making

  • can be realised in a step by step approach aligned to Eurocontrol levels
  • has been proven in operation for all three levels
  • guarantees quick return on investment
  • optimises the whole airport airside process
  • works based on information from all stakeholders
  • assists in coordinated decision making
  • improves situational awareness in each organisation

CDM is the exchange and use of information among airport stakeholders with the objective to improve the overall efficiency of operations.

delair’s Advanced-CDM product suite is fully aligned with the Eurocontrol Airport CDM approach. A-CDM consists of several modules which can be combined and related to the different CDM levels defined by Eurocontrol. Several highly sophisticated optimisation tools like arrival and departure manager and resource manager can be used.

The A-CDM platform has been implemented for the first time in 2003 at Zurich Airport and is fully operational since then. The quality of A-CDM has been testified by Eurocontrol in 2005 when Zurich Airport was nominated as the most advanced CDM airport in Europe. The achieved benefits in Zurich are:

  • additional capacity (1-2 additional movements at peak hours)
  • reduced fuel costs (more than 1.5 Mio. EUR/a)
  • reduced environmental impacts (3,600 t CO2, 34 t CO etc.)
