Flughafen Wien AG is one of the few listed airport operators in Europe. Its public shareholders, the province of Lower Austria and the city of Vienna, each hold 20% of share capital and thereby provide a stable ownership structure.A further 10% of the Company’s share capital was transferred to an employee fund in 2000, and allows the employees of Flughafen Wien AG to participate directly in the success of the Company. The remaining 50% of shares represent free float.

The number of passengers handled at Vienna International Airport during May 2009 fell by 12.8% year-on-year to 1,605,378. After strong growth in the previous year, the passenger volume in May 2009 fell slightly below the level recorded in the comparable month of 2007.
Flight movements fell by 9.2% in May 2009, while maximum take-off weight (MTOW) declined by 8.0% and cargo by 2.8%. The number of local passengers decreased 12.5% to 1,128,832.
In comparison with May 2008, the number of passengers (scheduled and charter traffic) travelling to Eastern Europe fell by 17.3% and traffic to the Middle East increased by 3.6%.
