Airport Meteorological Radar Solutions
GAMIC services the Meteorological Weather Radar Market since 1988
GAMIC’s next generation Radar Signal Processors ENIGMA IV processes more than 12000 range bins in real time in full DPOL mode
Weather radar systems in X, C, S – band, in stationary, transportable and mobile version as well as Magnetron, Klystron, TWT and solid state are offered in cooperation with experienced radar sensor manufacturer partners.
GAMIC's ATC Radar Doppler Weather Extractor enhances any ASR radar by a “weather radar like” data output, which acan be displayed either as color coded Reflectivity, radial velocity and turbulence or in CAT8 vectorized EUROCONTROL format for ATC console display.
The GAMIC weather software suite FROG-MURAN, currently version 4, has more than 50 weather processing algorithms, including Hydrometeor classification, DPOL rainfall attenuation correction, detection, NOWCASTING and real-time warnings. Specific weather phenomena detection algorithms like for MICROBURST, GUST FRONT, Severe Storm etc. are available.
GAMIC products are installed in large weather radar networks, like at DWD (German Weather Service) operating 19 DPOL radars in a nationwide composite.
GAMIC Product Line
Radar systems in X, C, S – band,
- in stationary, transportable and mobile version
- Magnetron, Klystron, TWT and solid state technology
- offered in cooperation with experienced radar sensor manufacturer partners
Radar Signal Processors
1.1 ENIGMA IV Signal Processor OverviewThe ENIGMA IV signal processor comprises the following main units:
- IF digitizer, IFD
- PC-PCI Host board
- PC Host
- Intelligent IFD using FPGA technology
- Only one IFD unit and one fiber optics downlink for dual-channel receivers
- Built in BITE, BIST and IF Test Signal Generator
- Pulse compression processing
- 30 and 60 MHz IF versions
- sampling rate > 70 MHz
- IFD level analog outputs of I, Q, and preprocessed data
- Remote configuration and control of all processing functions via host or serial line
- Double 16 bit A/D converter version has typically >100 db total dynamic range
- 16 bit DAC outputs
- programmable trigger outputs
ENIGMA IV is a combined digital IF receiver, transmitter controller and signal processor which replaces virtually all analog IF receiver components found in a traditional Doppler radar.
ENIGMA IV SDP extends the well proven concept of ENIGMA digital IF receiver for Doppler radars by additional advanced processing for Magnetron, Klystron, TWT and Solid-State radars.
ENIGMA IV is based on the most modern digital processing technology and the industry standard PC – LINUX platform.
GCP, Radar Control Processor
GCP interfaces FROG-MURAN to any radar, old or new
The GCP controls and manages data acquisition…
- Antenna positioning
- Radar transceiver functions, modes
- BITE
- Environmental data
- Security
- Local radar maintenance access functions
ATC Radar Doppler Weather Extractor, GWSP
- Operational for more than 4 years at Schiphol airport (NL)
- Now under deployment at more than 36 German and Swiss Air Force sites in cooperation with CASSIDIAN (EADS).
The goal of the GWSP is the improvement of safety of aircraft operations by means of timely detection and reporting of hazardous weather phenomena in the airport approach area
This information is extracted from Airport Surveillance Radars (ASR) data in parallel to the standard tracking function.
In particular severe precipitation, wind shear near the terminal approach and departure zones of an air port are processed and identified.
Thunderstorms, micro bursts and gust fronts are such critical events.
The GWSP is intended to provide fast and precise weather data extraction and display of all weather target moments
- RainReflectivity
- Doppler Velocity
- WindTurbulence
Range: >60nm (>100km) as available from the Primary ASR receiver
It can be either implemented as modernization, retrofit or improvement of the existing or new ASR systems
ASR radars serviced are Magnetron, TWT, Klystron and SolidState.
Weather and warning data are sent to the ATC controller workplaces in ASTERIX CAT 8 format. Other high resolution formats are available.
