IFS Transmission Introduces a New Expanded Line of Ethernet/IP Products

IFS Transmission introduces an expanded line of Ethernet/IP products at ISC West. The products build on more than 28 years of providing quality communications products that meet the changing needs of the security marketplace. IFS Transmission is part of UTC Fire & Security.

The new Ethernet switch product line ranges from 4, 5 and 8 port unmanaged switches to full 24-port PoE GigE enterprise-class managed switches. IFS Transmission also now offers a full line of Ethernet media converters and PoE inserters and splitters to meet the needs of any Ethernet system on any type of physical media.

“We invested heavily in product development last year in order to provide the security market a single source for the most complete and robust line of Ethernet products available,” said Richard L. Malstrom, Fiber Sales Leader for IFS Transmission.

The managed switches provide high bandwidth capabilities and multiple functionality, including IGMP snooping and query, rapid spanning tree and multicasting.

The industrial switch line provides DIN rail mount or surface mount options, redundant power capability and operate over a wide temperature range (-40 to +75 degrees Celsius). IFS Transmission also offers a 7+3 GigE industrial switch with two Gig pass-through ports and one Gig “drop and insert” port. This product configuration offers additional network redundancy for mission critical network applications.

“The industrial switches also offer a unique ‘industrial fail safe’ ring protocol that provides quicker network recovery than traditional rapid spanning tree protocols,” said Malstrom, “making it an ideal product for video over IP networks.”

Many of the IFS Transmission Ethernet switches utilize the industry standard mini-GBIC Small Form Pluggable (SFP) connectors. This offers the security network engineer the ability to design a system around an existing optical fiber network already deployed, yet having the most flexibility as the optical characteristics of the fiber backbone changes.

IFS Transmission is also expanding pre- and post-sales engineering to provide increased expertise in assisting customers with their IP network needs.

Formerly part of GE Security, IFS Transmission is now a part of UTC Fire & Security. “It’s going to be a great year at IFS Transmission since we are now owned by United Technologies Corporation,” said Malstrom. “We are backed by a strong international company with great resources to better support our customers.”
