Why KVM Systems and what are the advantages
The limited space in the tower as well as the necessity to be able to work highly concentrated and undisturbed by computer emissions are the driving factors for removing computers from the controller’s desk into a separate plant room. That way, not only space for the computers as such, but also space, installations and energy needed for their climatisation can be saved.
Moreover, the computers are more easily accessible for maintenance purposes once removed into a remote plant room. Futhermore, flight controllers will no longer be distrurbed by maintenance work. The resonable distance between controller and computer is bridged via KVM extender systems. Such a system consists of a transmitter (computer side) and a receiver (user side).

ATCO's Real Time Computer Access From Remote
G&D holds a wide range of different KVM extenders for DVI and VGA video and accompanying computer signals. ‘DVIVision’ e.g. does 140 m over CAT cables. ‘FIBREVision’ e.g. transmits images and enables computer operation over a distance up to 10,000 m using fibre optics.

Dual Link DVI Solutions and Saftey for ATC
For high resolutions like 2048 x 2048, G&D’s dual link DVI extender line is suitable. ‘DL-Compact’ and ‘DL-Vision’ are capable of resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz with a colour depth of 24 bit. DualLink-Extender exclusively transmits DVI as well as USB and PS/2 keyboard/mouse whereas the DL-Vision transmits in addition audio and RS232.
DL-Vision-MC2, designed for dual-head graphics adapters, transmits 2 x 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz and the accompanying computer signals via 4 fibres. Images are transmitted lossless from point to point while there’s no frame-dropping or content loss. Redundant, self-controlling power supplies ensure the operational safety of the device.
DL-Vision-MC2 KVM Extender with permanent monitoring of fibre link and target video signal as well as event reporting function, SNMP and Syslog reporting, 1:1 performance and twofold network interface.
Preventive Monitoring and Active Reporting
The unique selling proposition is the networking ability of the DL-Vision devices. Not only for updating/restoring of system configuration or firmware but also for monitoring and active reporting, the dual network connectivity was designed.
As safety is paramount in ATC applications, the administrator gains online system event information and forwarding. Those information can either be actively requested by the admin or the system itself sends alarms in form of SNMP traps via network.
