Clearway products are used for anti-icing and de-icing applications Anti-icing is a preventative strategy, while de-icing is a reactive strategy for ice control. Anti-icing is carried out to prevent the formation of an ice sheet, and de-icing operations are intended to break the bindings of already bonded snow and ice.
The most important objectives of de-icing and anti-icing operations are:
- to clear airport runways of snow and ice, and to prevent the bonding of ice on runways, taxiways and aprons.
- to improve safety and traffic flows at airports.

Safe runways with Kemiras de-icing product
In the Northern hemisphere, the maintenance of runways is a demanding task for airports. A safe take off and landing must be guaranteed even in case of black ice and snowfall so de-icing must be efficient, fast, and unfailing.Sales Manager Timo Nissinen says that nowadays the safety aspect is increasingly combined with a strong environmental standpoint when it comes to de-icing chemicals. "The previously widely used urea was banned a decade ago for environmental reasons. This stimulated chemical suppliers to develop new alternatives for de-icing."
The Clearway product family has been in Kemira's product portfolio since 2005. The acetate and formate based chemicals are suitable everywhere where there is a need for the prevention and melting of ice and snow.
