Bird Deterrent Laser Systems - Green Laser For Birdstrike Avoidance At Airports
LORD's unique laser technology has been developed in the years 2003-2005 in cooperation with civil aviation authorities for the civil aviation community. This is the first and only bird dispersal system today that does not create any bird habituation and is effective with all wild bird species.
Both scientific results from the 3-year real-world testing and up to 5 years of experience from airports using LORD's equipment demonstrate the TOM500 series laser systems can reduce birdstrikes on runways by 38% to 51%.
By constantly scanning the runway, the TOM500 bird deterrent laser system creates a permanent threat for birds, which encourages them to leave the area for safer roosting and feeding grounds.
Green Laser To Combat Bird Strikes At Airports
TOM500 Bird Deterrent Laser System is the most effective way of scaring birds away from runways. It uses a green laser and scans the runway at regular intervals on pre-programmed paths, close to the ground.
The laser light is expanded and collimated so that the beam shows a large and constant 152 mm diameter over the whole range. It covers runways of up to 3,000 meters in length.
The stick-like effect. Birds perceive the bright green beam as a long stick coming their way. The only alternative they have to avoid the blow is to fly away. This is a survival reflex, the same reflex as a bird flying away as a car approaches.
Unprecedented Benefits Not Available With Any Other Systems
No habituation. Ornithologists demonstrated that bird are mostly VISUAL animals: they primarily (and always) react to the SIGHT of danger.
This is why LORD Bird Deterrent Laser system does not create any bird habituation: the stick-like effect of the laser stimulates the birds reflex for survival every time. While a bird can get used to noise and sound, it won't ever try to test the stick.
All wild bird species. No matter which continent of the world they come from, all wild bird species have a strong will to survive and they all fly away at the sight of the stick coming to hit them.
No Flash Blindness Nor Distraction For Pilots
Harmless and nuisance-free. Unlike traditional acoustic and pyrotechnic devices, laser is a silent and nuisance-free technology.
Also, the Class 2M laser radiation is certified 100% eye-safe for humans...and it does not hurt birds either.
No visual hindrance. Whether at day or night, there is no visual hindrance for pilots. The laser is always pointed at the ground and, because the beam is always moving at speeds up to 10 m/sec, it cannot even dazzle anyone: the human eye blink reflex does prevent it.
No visual disturbance was reported by pilots during the testing phase at both civil and military airports in a variety of weather and light conditions.
