Over 10 million tons of polyurethane (PU) foams are manufactured globally each year, and as much a 20% of that production is unsellable scrap. Combining that manufacturing scrap with end-of-life recycling or disposal of PU foam, every year there is a tremendous waste of material that was made with a large investment of energy and still contains some very useful chemical functionality.
Mobius Technologies has developed a patented technology of grinding down polyurethane foam waste to a very fine powder. This powder foam can be post-consumer or post-industrial recycle, and has been called Micronized Polyurethane, or EcoMPU.
Finely ground waste PU foam has demonstrated to be very effective to absorb any Hydro Carbons and other chemicals on water and grounds.
The greatest advantage using PU based product is it’s high oil recovery ratio absorbed oil weight/sorbent weigh. With EcoMPU you will need on average 10 times less material to clean up oil spills.
The use of EcoMPU will permit every industry confronted with oil spills to reduce the use of chemicals, reduce toxic impacts, and reduce considerably the stream of contaminated material disposal
