PARSONS ANNOUNCES THAT CONSTRUCTION OF SECOND PHASE OF RDU TERMINAL 2 IS UNDER WAY

PASADENA, CA (February 17, 2009) – Parsons, the program/construction manager (PM/CM) for Raleigh-Durham International Airport’s (RDU) Terminal 2 capital improvement program, is pleased to announce that construction is under way on Phase 2.

Phase 2, which began in November 2008, will see the total aircraft gates grow from 19 to 36. In addition, a third ticketing island with 20 positions and 2 additional baggage claim carousels will be added during this phase.

“This project sets an impressive milestone for RDU, and we are very pleased to be working with them,” said Jim Shappell, Parsons Group President. “Phase 1 of Terminal 2 already has eliminated crowding and made boarding a great experience for passengers,” he added.

Parsons has served as the PM/CM of RDU’s $570 million Terminal 2 program since its inception in 2002 and has provided a vast array of services for more than 30 projects at the airport. Parsons’ services include design management, procurement management, project controls, construction management, information technology management, security access control system management, tenant development liaison, activation management, commissioning management, and program management.

“I have never seen a better project in my 41 years in the business,” stated RDU Airport Authority Board Vice Chairman Robert D. Teer, Jr.

Phase 1 of Terminal 2 officially opened for business on October 26, 2008—the new terminal features a modern design, a variety of specialty retail shops and restaurants, and a new processing area for international travelers. Phase 2 is scheduled for completion in early 2011.
