Range of fire-resistant applications
Pilkington fire-resistant glass is well known and preferred for superior performance and excellent reliability and has already been tested in more than 1000 applications worldwide. Pilkington Pyrostop® is an integrity and insulation (EI class) clear multi-layer intumescent fire-resistant glass, offering basic integrity and full thermal insulation for a specific period of time (EI 30 up to EI 180). Pilkington Pyrodur® provides integrity and partial thermal insulation (EW class) incorporating the same intumescent interlayer technology with thinner compositions. Pilkington Pyroclear® is the latest addition to the fire-resistant product line of NSG Group and Pilkington suitable for applications where basic integrity only is sufficient (E class).
Furthermore Pilkington’s range of fire-resistant glass can be conveniently combined with other functional glasses as an IGU to provide multifunctional properties, such as thermal insulation, sound reduction etc. All fire-resistant glasses are developed, designed and produced to offer the best protection and continuous quality and are all fully CE marked.
Typical range of applications with fire-resistant properties in sensitive areas of airport buildings:
- Large-area partitions for compartmentation walls
- External façade systems
- Single and double leaf doors with fixed lites and surrounding glazed screens
- Sliding door systems, even as emergency exits
- Door and wall systems as structural glazing look-a-like or flush mounted
- Roof glazing
- Horizontal glazing for floors, loaded or non-loaded
Solar control and Radar Stop Glass
The Pilkington Suncool™ range consists of superior energy management glass combining high visible light transmittance with solar control and low-emissivity performance, all in one product.
Radar detection systems work by sending out a signal and monitoring the response. Some coated products such as low-e glazing and solar control glass can reflect a high proportion of the radar signal and give a false image. For large glazed facades close to airports this can be a particular problem. Pilkington Suncool™ Radarstop is specifically tuned to reduce 99 per cent of radar signals, substantially reducing the potential for interference whilst allowing the benefits of low-e and solar control glazing.

Pilkington OptiphonTM, the solution for unwanted Noise
Pilkington Optiphon™ is the ideal choice of glass in situations where there is excess noise such as air traffic, or other sources. These can cause people to experience inconvenience, annoyance, stress and even diagnosable illness. Glazing and windows can play an important part in reducing this noise. Using a special PVB (polyvinyl butyral) interlayer, Pilkington Optiphon™ is a high quality acoustic laminated glass that offers excellent noise reduction whilst also providing safety and security properties.
Demo Tool – available online
To help the customers and specifiers to choose the glass more easily, Pilkington have developed the Pilkington Sound Simulator. It allows the user to hear the simulated effect that different types of glass, and particularly Pilkington Optiphon™, can have on attenuating various external noises, for example noise of airplanes, to provide a comfortable internal noise climate.
