Recording Systems for the Air Traffic Community

Precision Applications is a world class manufacturer of Recording Systems for the Air Traffic Community.  The Veristore range of recorders has been developed specifically for this application and satisfies the requirements of a modern ATC environment.

Voice, radar and screen display signals are captured, recorded, retrieved and replayed.  All sources of data are stored in one second blocks, which are time stamped.  This enables the data blocks to be accurately identified to ensure that all are fully synchronised when replayed.

The data is then held in a rolling store, which gives access to recordings for a configurable number of days.

Precision Applications offer comprehensive support of their products, including technical and applications support, installation, commissioning and maintenance, all of which can be tailored to individual requirements.

  • Air Traffic Recording Management.
  • Dedicated hardware recorders not based on PCs.
  • Voice and radar are recorded without coding or compression to ensure faithful reproduction.
  • When replayed, voice, radar and screen displays are fully synchronised.
  • Robust recorders designed to work in critical aeronautical environments.
  • Comprehensive support packages offered for all equipment.

Gatwick Airport chooses Precision Applications Veristore Recording System.

Precision Applications has been chosen to supply and install an ATC Recording System at Gatwick Airport.  The new system will replace the current recording facility and will be fully compliant with the latest ICAO requirements and the new regulations for recording radar data, specified in UK CAA CAP 670, which came into force on the 1st January 2012.

The Veristore Recording System was recommended by NATS and selected by Gatwick Airport.  Similar systems, which record and synchronously replay audio signals, radar data (both ‘through-the-wall’, raw radar and ‘at-the-glass’, controller screen capture information) have already been installed at 9 major UK airports during 2011.  All of these systems have been accepted by the UK CAA and are now fully operational.  This brings the total number of installations in the UK to more than 20, which together record over 1100 voice channels, 60 raw radar channels and 58 controller screens.

Gatwick Airport is the second largest international airport and the second busiest airport by total passenger traffic, in the UK.  More than 32 million passengers transit Gatwick Airport each year, travelling to over 200 destinations, carried by approximately 90 different carriers.  It is the world’s busiest single runway airport with an average of 52 aircraft movements per hour.  It was also the world’s first airport with a direct railway link and the first to combine mainline railway travel, trunk road facilities and an air terminal in one unit.

Precision Applications is very pleased to be working with NATS to install and commission the new Recording System.  NATS provide Air Traffic Control services at many airports both in the UK and overseas.  Their prime objective is to deliver safety critical services whilst making airport operations more efficient and profitable.  Their success has been demonstrated by their achievement in delivering market leading levels of air traffic capacity at both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports, the two largest and busiest airports in the UK.

Denise Malyan, Managing Director of Precision Applications said ‘we are delighted that both NATS and Gatwick Airport have demonstrated their confidence in our Veristore Recorders, which we believe are the world leaders in the field of ATC recording.  We are confident that our equipment will meet all of their needs and provide a totally reliable recording system, which may be easily expanded as new requirements are identified and new legislation is introduced.’
