Flying Business Increases in Hampshire - TAG Farnborough Airport wins planning appeal assisted by RPSThe Secretaries of State for Communities and Local Government have granted planning consent to increase in the number of business aviation flights permitted at TAG Farnborough Airport, Hampshire, from the current limit of 28,000 to 50,000 per annum by 2019.
This judgment was made following a planning inquiry held in May and June 2010 to consider an appeal against the earlier refusal of permission by Rushmoor Borough Council.

Commenting on the outcome of the appeal, David Thomson of RPS, who gave evidence at the inquiry, said:
“I am pleased with the Secretaries of States’ decision to allow TAG Farnborough Airport to continue to develop its business in a sustainable manner, with the local and national economic benefits that such expansion will bring. RPS is proud to be associated with this leading edge business aviation airport which has already set exemplary standards of sustainable management and established highly ambitious targets for the future”
RPS advised TAG Farnborough Airport on planning, transport, ecology and sustainability issues associated with their expansion plans for the Airport and provided evidence at the inquiry on planning and climate change matters.
Additionally, RPS helped TAG develop its Master Plan, Travel Plan and ground breaking Sustainability and Climate Change Charter, which includes a commitment for the Airport to achieve ‘carbon neutral’ status by 2019.
In his report, the Inspector commented:
“The Airport’s exemplar status is reflected in its voluntary commitment to the control of emissions and achieving carbon neutrality” and
“This approach and achievement has been generously commended during the inquiry by the most fervent objector on climate change issues” (CPRE), and
“…the Airport through the appeal proposal can play its part in tackling emissions and climate change (a key government priority for the planning system) consistent with the government’s ambition of a lower emission, low carbon economy”
