MBHS - Multisorting Baggage Handling System
In its BHS range, SELEX Elsag offers large airports and hubs an innovative, high-performance sorting system, featuring a continuous train of carts fitted with loading cells and running in a loop, 30° induction lines to load baggage automatically onto the transport system, and unloading stations.Main features:
- linear synchronous motors drive the train of carts
- an induction system delivers constant power without sliding contacts, onboard batteries or energy accumulation systems
- wireless control and data signal transfer
- use of motor-rollers on cells, eliminating the need for belt transmission mechanisms
- distributed control system
- rails coated in harmonic steel and high-strength wheels reduce friction
- precise cell testing and diagnostic functions.
MBHS can also adjust capacity dynamically according to changes in traffic during the day: decreasing speed during periods of reduced air traffic can save more than 30% in terms of power consumption, wear and maintenance costs compared with constant speed systems.
MBHS is based on cross-belt technology, with motorized belts in all cells moving perpendicularly to the cart direction, ensuring optimum transport and handling for all articles, including fragile ones.
MTTS is the SELEX Elsag baggage sorting solution based on more conventional tilt-tray technology. It features many of the innovative technical characteristics of MBHS, including linear synchronous motors to drive the train of carts, an induction system to transfer energy on board and a distributed control system to adjust sorter speed and handling capacity dynamically according to changes in traffic during the day.
Active Sorting Carousel
ASC is the cost-effective, low-capacity sorting system developed by SELEX Elsag, consisting of a flat carousel with pushing devices that sort items to their unloading chutes.

Radio Frequency Identification - Automatic Baggage Tracking
RFID-ABT is an innovative detection station that combines RFID and bar-code technologies to deliver very high baggage identification rate and throughput.
RFID-ABT stations ensure that the entire baggage flow is checked quickly and thoroughly, as well as enabling the automatic management of all handling and sorting operations, from check-in stations to aircraft cargo decks, in such a way as to minimise manual baggage process costs.
Baggage flow management systems
SELEX Elsag designs and develops advanced software systems that can manage the entire baggage flow inside airports and interface with the information systems used by airlines and other airport operators.
