Integrated ATM and Airport Systems

Saab’s tools for a more efficient airport

Saab’s integrated ATM and airport systems reflect the well-proven Swedish safety and reliability standards. They are built to suit all environ ments, from regional to international airports, and can work independently or as an integrated ATM and airport system.

All systems give the customer the flexibility to add modules when needed for future expansion. High levels of integration and ease of sharing information between present and future systems are also important features of the Saab tools. This paves the way for Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) across all aspects of airport operations.

Saab serves the global market of governments, authorities and corporations with world-leading products, services and solutions, from military defence to civil security. With operations on every continent, Saab continuously develops, adapts and improves new technology to meet customers’ changing needs.

Its most important markets today are Europe, South Africa, Australia and the US. Saab has around 12,500 employees. Annual sales amount to around SEK 25 billion, of which research and development account for about 20 per cent of sales.

Remote Operated Tower, R-TWR

The r-TWR - Remote Tower control solution - is a revolutionary initiative for ATC and airport operators. For the first time, there is a real opportunity to combine a dynamic use of resources, information sharing and safety enhancement features at a preferred safe location.

Technology within the r-TWR is based on the incorporation of different available surveillance sources. In addition to this, the new element of camera surveillance is implemented, vastly enhancing an air traffic control ler’s situational awareness. Additional features such as the ability to maintain traffic identification in low visibility conditions via infrared camera, motion detection to alert for anomalies and on-screen label presentation will assist the air traffic controller greatly.

Integrated Tower I-TWR

i-TWR is the smart solution to engender a working environment that supports a simpler air traffic control working environment whilst reduc ing costs and improving maintenance accessibility.

An i-TWR working position typically consists of one flat screen equipped with a mouse and keyboard plus one or two touch screens. Naturally, the setup can be modified to meet the specific needs from the ATC and other stakeholders.

Electronic Flight Progress System E-STRIP

The e-Strip is a role-based fully redundant electronic flight progress strip system. It includes advanced functionality to support the air traffic controller’s situational awareness in complex traffic situations. The e-Strip system is easily connected to external users for precise information sharing (CDM) and situational updates, greatly enhancing all aspects of airport operations.

Advanced Surface Movement Guidance & Control System A-SMGCS

SMGCS is a cornerstone of the air traffic controller’s ability to manage high volumes of traffic in all visibility conditions. Linked with other key features such as e-Strip, the safety and flow of airside operations is greatly enhanced. All aspects of surveillance, control, ATC clearances and information sharing can benefit from A-SMGCS.

Other Systems and Services

  • Airport billing system linked to the e-Strip. With this system solution the airport receives an automated handling interface in respect to statisti cal administration and billing of movements.
  • Navigation aids e.g. ILS and DME STCA (short-term conflict adviso ries) system. To be incorporated with existing Radar display systems.
  • Multi Radar Sensor and Tracker. Software to enable the correlation of different radar sources such as PSR (primary surveillance radar), SSR (secondary surveillance radar), Mode-S and satellite signals.
  • FOX radar extractor. An adaptive and self-learning radar extractor. Well-proven in multiple surveillance areas.
  • Voice recording. All voice, sound and radar data can be recorded on one system. Replay and analysis can be made more easily and securely.
