BH Airport connects with strategic partners in search of business solutions

Aeroporto received nine international startups and carried out an action with Skema to foster the innovation ecosystem and the search for disruptive ideas

In recent days, BH Airport has promoted actions aimed at open innovation. The objective was to create connections with strategic partners with a focus on attracting new solutions for the business and for the aviation chain. This week, the airport received nine international startups for a business roundtable. In addition, there was a global challenge, with students from the Skema Business School, aimed at the retail and hospitality area.

“Open, collaborative innovation, with the support of strategic partners, is an important step towards customizing solutions for the aviation sector. These two actions brought the airport even closer to the innovation and knowledge ecosystem of Belo Horizonte, one of the main ones in the country, with disruptive ideas that can make a difference in the most diverse areas of the airport”, emphasizes the Commercial and New Business director of the BH Airport, Marcos Mandacaru.

In the first action, BH Airport received a delegation of nine startups from Israel, Japan and Singapore in search of business opportunities. In partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex Brasil) and the Brazilian Association of Private Equity and Venture Capital (ABVCAP), BH Airport promoted a meeting of prominent companies with diverse technological solutions. The event also had the participation of Latam, Azul, CCR, Vivo and Dufry.

“We have pioneering spirit as a value and we are on the lookout for opportunities that contribute to open innovation, focusing on growth and expanding our competitiveness. Being close to these startups helps us to broaden our perspective, our critical vision and understand how many solutions can be absorbed by the airport and also by the aviation chain”, evaluates the Innovation manager, Mariana Yazbeck. She adds that, “in many cases, the solution is aimed at another sector, but it can be adapted and customized to our market. This allows us to innovate and develop a new ecosystem of solutions for our industry”, he concludes.

Airport as a Proving Ground

Another action put into practice throughout the week was the BH Airport global challenge, in partnership with the Skema Business School, in search of ideas that could further strengthen and improve the retail and hospitality area. Currently, the airport has 90 commercial operations. In recent weeks, the international terminal in Minas Gerais launched nine operations in 15 days. The most recent was the opening of Lotérica, in the airport lobby. “We are experiencing a favorable moment for expanding our mix, seeking to expand our commercial infrastructure and make the entire area more efficient. When we get together with students of different nationalities, we have the opportunity to have a new look, with new ideas for the business”, evaluates Marcos Mandacaru.

During the meeting, BH Airport’s Commercial and New Business director presented the airport and proposed challenges to Skema students to increase sector revenue, as well as improve customer perception and experience. “We want to expand this ecosystem of innovation and knowledge in our terminal. This initiative was an opportunity for these students to think about innovative and international actions that could change the way we work in the retail and hospitality area. Once again, we position BH Airport as a proving ground for knowledge technologies”, he highlights.
