Finnish Border Guard pilots the use of a digital travel document at Helsinki Airport

Company Helsinki Airport
Date 17.02.2023
The Finnish Border Guard is running a pilot on the use of a digital travel document in border control for international air traffic at Helsinki Airport during 2023.

The pilot is part of Finnish authorities’ DTC (Digital Travel Credentials) Pilot project. The project produces data for the legislative needs of the European Commission as part of its extensive set of policies regarding digital identity.

According to the Finnish Border Guard, the objective of the digital travel document is to facilitate travel and speed up border control.

In order to carry out the pilot, technical capabilities for verifying digital travel documents will be built at the border control checkpoints of Helsinki Airport.

Passengers on routes separately selected by the authorities are eligible to participate in the testing. Participation is voluntary. Finnair acts as a partner to the Finnish Border Guard, and the National Police Board of Finland, Finnish Immigration Service and Finavia act as associated partners.
