In recognition of its sustained health and safety response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Miami International Airport has been reaccredited by the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation program. In September 2020, MIA was the first airport in Florida, second in the United States, and third in North America to be accredited under the program. The ACI accreditation is based on evidence that MIA is following best practices and has implemented key measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
“Congratulations to the MIA team for once again being recognized globally for its aggressive, ongoing efforts to slow the spread and protect our travelers and employees. MIA’s reaccreditation by ACI World is more evidence that Miami-Dade County is on the leading edge in the fight against COVID-19.”
Daniella Levine Cava, Mayor of Miami-Dade County
ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation program assists airports by assessing new health measures and procedures introduced because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Areas of assessment for reaccreditation included: cleaning and disinfection; passenger protection through measures such as physical distancing, face-covering requirements, and contactless technology; staff protection via training and easy access to health and safety supplies; and stakeholder collaboration.
“After reviewing the evidence presented through our evaluation process, your airport has demonstrated an admirable continuation of its efforts to provide a safe airport experience for all travelers, which is in line with the recommended health measures established in the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and ICAO Council Aviation Recovery Task Force Recommendations, along with industry best practices. As countries slowly reopen and travel restrictions lifted, we are confident that your efforts will succeed as we transition back into a promising future.”
Luis Felipe de Oliveira, ACI World Director General
“From the onset of the pandemic, our highest priority has been to exceed industry best practices and implement every measure possible to protect the wellbeing of our customers and employees. Accreditation from a global industry leader like ACI, after undergoing its rigorous evaluation process, is more reassurance for our passengers that they can feel comfortable about flying through MIA.”
Ralph Cutié, Miami International Airport Director & CEO
