Milan Bergamo Airport celebrates Wizz Air’s tenth service and the Italian gateway’s first connection to Serbia as the ULCC launches a five times weekly service to Belgrade.

Welcoming another new route this summer, Milan Bergamo Airport is also celebrating long-standing airline partner, Wizz Air’s, tenth service from the Italian gateway. Launching a five times weekly service to Belgrade today, the ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) connects the Lombardy region to Serbia for the first time. The addition of Wizz Air’s latest service will see the carrier offer 34,000 seats from Milan Bergamo during W23/24.

Having joined the airport in May 2004, when Milan Bergamo became one of the first airports served by Wizz Air on its first day of operations from Katowice, the ULCC now links the airport to five countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Poland, Serbia, and Romania. Being the leading carrier serving Romania from Milan Bergamo, Wizz Air operates to six destinations within the nation – Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iasi, Suceava, and Timisoara – offering 9,370 weekly seats to the southeastern European country.

Over the course of the last 19 years, the airline has carried more than 12 million passengers through Milan Bergamo, with a record figure in 2019 surpassing the one million mark. With the new flight to Belgrade, the ULCC is on course to break this record in 2024.

Giacomo Cattaneo, Director of Commercial Aviation, SACBO comments: “It’s always a great pleasure to watch an airline grow at our airport and we take great delight in celebrating this momentous tenth route with Wizz Air.” Cattaneo adds: “To not only add a new destination but a new country to our route map is testament to the considerable market demand and I have no doubt the new flights will be popular with Italian and Serbian travellers alike.”

Currently 35% of Wizz Air flights at Milan Bergamo are operated with the new A320 NEOs and A321 NEOs, aiding the airport’s pathway to reduce CO₂ and noise pollution.
