Aircraft Interiors Expo 2020: leading with innovation and endeavour

Event Date 06.06.2023
Press Release Date 29.01.2020

Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) – the world’s premier event for those responsible for cabin interiors, inflight entertainment and passenger comfort – is set to raise the bar for aircraft cabin design and passenger services innovation when it welcomes more than 16,000 key aviation decision-makers to Hamburg from 31 March – 2 April.

Filling all 11 B halls of the Hamburg Messe, AIX will be co-located with the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) and is preceded by the Passenger Experience Conference (PEC) on 30 March. In what is collectively known as Passenger Experience Week, the three shows bring the best of passenger experience and cabin services to one of Europe’s largest aviation hubs, Hamburg in Germany.

The aircraft cabin interiors market is projected to grow from USD $27.0 billion in 2018 to USD $40.2 billion by 2025 at a CAGR of 5.87%.[1] In-flight Entertainment & Connectivity (IFEC) is driving this strong growth, buoyed by increased demand for IFEC systems to maintain and enhance services offered onboard. This also presents an opportunity for airlines to create new revenue streams through the availability of onboard shopping, Wi-Fi connectivity and advertising opportunities. With passenger experience continuing to sit at the heart of the industry, AIX will be on hand to showcase the latest services and solutions available for airlines to impress and delight passengers.

What to expect at AIX

For its 21st edition, the 2020 event will welcome 600 of the industry’s leading aircraft interiors suppliers including the likes of Airbus, Boeing, Recaro, Safran SA, STS Aviation, and Lufthansa Technik.

Complementing some of the most recognisable names in aviation, more than 50 exhibitors will also take to the show floor for the first time. One such company is Bright Lite Structures, LLC. The design and manufacturing company will showcase its game-changing carbon fibre technology that produces components for aerospace that are strong, light-weight, inexpensive and fast to manufacture. This includes new aircraft seating that weighs up to 30% less than conventional seating and is slim enough in profile to allow for an extra row in the main cabin or greater legroom. The seating has met demanding test requirements for abuse load, crash load, fire and toxicity, with test results meeting or exceeding FAA and CAA standards.

Fellow first-time exhibitor, Schoutteten & Froidure, a family-owned group of 18 companies working in textile, plastics and steel, will showcase its cargo net straps, textile brakes and straps and flame-resistance sheaths. Also making its debut at AIX 2020, TEAC CORPORATION will highlight its PortaStream, lightweight and battery-driven streaming server designed to increase capabilities for in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC).

And, with the IFEC market projected to reach USD $10.5 billion by 2025[2], the need to enhance the passenger experience, connectivity and entertainment onboard, coupled with an increase in aircraft deliveries is expected to continue driving growth in the market. At AIX 2020, more than 70 exhibitors will showcase relevant solutions in the show’s dedicated IFEC Zone, including Inmarsat Global Ltd, Burrana, Panasonic Avionics Corporation, Thales and Immfly.

From the award-winning portable wireless IFE platform, AirFi Box from AIRFI.AERO; broadband connectivity products and services from Gogo; cabin and cockpit connectivity solutions from Honeywell; and virtual reality-based inflight entertainment (IFE) from Inflight VR Software GmbH, the IFEC Zone will once again demonstrate the cutting edge of in-flight technology solutions, covering everything from servers and OTT systems to 5G and VR.

Networking: bringing the industry together

With networking and nurturing relationships a high priority for all attendees, AIX 2020 will host a dedicated new buyer programme AIX Connect in Hamburg for the first time. The programme is designed to help buyers meet exhibitors during the show to build business connections and discuss new projects. It will offer attendees the chance to benefit from increased networking opportunities while exhibitors enjoy high-quality business connections matched to their product offering.

Recognised as the perfect place to meet, connect and do business, AIX has already gained itself the reputation as a platform for networking on a global scale as Ed Kinnier, VP Strategy Interiors at Collins Aerospace, explained: “AIX is simply the best place every year for us to celebrate with our customers and to listen to them.”

Learning opportunities uncovered at AIX

In addition to a raft of new product launches and solutions unveiled on the show floor, the event’s CabinSpace LIVE Seminar Theatre will return with interactive and thought-provoking presentations and inspirational demonstrations from industry experts. Among the topics confirmed for the 2020 programme will be the challenges and opportunities of creating an accessible cabin; how to extract value from customer-centric experiences; and the outlook for the aircraft interiors market. IFEC and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) will also be on the agenda.

Delivering unrivalled learning opportunities, the Passenger Experience Conference (PEC) will also return on 30 March 2020. During the one-day conference, highly-experienced industry speakers will come together to take a deep dive into topical issues impacting the industry, while uncovering the trends of today and solutions for tomorrow. Three carefully curated themes will run throughout the day’s sessions including thinking like a disruptor, delivering a customer-centric journey, and sustainability as the next paradigm shift for air travel.

Speaking about the upcoming exhibition, Polly Magraw, Event Director, said: “With so much on offer, Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) returns to Hamburg from 31 March – 2 April 2020 to bring the aviation community together to discover current and future trends that will have the power to transform the passenger experience.

“With 600 of the leading aircraft interior design suppliers demonstrating their latest solutions and product innovations, it cements the event’s position as the not to the missed date in the cabin interiors calendar. We look forward to welcoming our attendees back to Hamburg as we head into our 21st year with a host of new and exciting companies joining us for the first time – further expanding the depth and breadth of unrivalled sector representation.

“And, the show’s continued co-location with the World Travel Catering & Services Expo (WTCE) and Passenger Experience Conference (PEC) means a 360-degree view of the passenger experience can be gained in one place over the course of just four days.”
