US/Canada Border Conference: Confirmed Keynotes

R. Gil Kerlikowske, Commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Linda Lizotte-MacPherson, President, Canada Border Services Agency, will open the US/Canada Border Conference with a Keynote Panel address on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 8:30am, helping kick off the 4th annual event taking place this year in Detroit, MI.

During the keynote presentation, The State of (Priorities for) the Border, these two heads of the primary border agencies for the U.S. and Canada, CBP and CBSA, will discuss the priorities of their agencies and the future of the Beyond the Border initiative, including the concept of “Perimeter Security”, the future of pre-clearance, common risk assessment approaches and benchmarking inspection protocols for common threats to North America. The keynote panel will be moderated by Robert C. Bonner, Advisory Board Chairman; Senior Principal, Sentinel Strategy and Policy Consulting.

The Luncheon Keynote, International Drug Trafficking and Border Security: Law Enforcement Cooperation to Combat Transnational Criminal Organizations, will be delivered at 12:15pm by Chuck Rosenberg, Acting Administrator, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, while Admiral Robert Papp, U.S. Special Representative for the Arctic, U.S. Department of State, will follow that afternoon at 3:15pm with a Plenary Keynote, The Polar Border: The Implications of the Changing Arctic.

Hon. John Manley P.C., O.C., President and Chief Executive, Business Council of Canada, opens the second day of programming (September 21) with the Opening Keynote at 8:15am, Can the Border Be Managed Better? This session will offer a trade perspective of border management: how the border could be better managed, while addressing both security needs and trade and travel facilitation.

Day two also includes a Plenary Keynote at 10:00am, The State of Maritime Security and Bi-National Cooperation, with Vice Admiral Charles Ray, Deputy Commandant for Operations, U.S. Coast Guard; and a Luncheon Keynote at 12:15pm, Border Vision: What the Border Should Look Like in 2030, with Seth Stodder, Assistant Secretary for Policy, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The two-day conference will also include the annual Salute to Fallen Heroes Memorial Ceremony at 9:00am on Wednesday, September 21.
