Last year turned out to be successful for the Russian air transport industry. Both passenger traffic and turnover went up for the first time in three years – by 18.6% and 20.3% respectively. Experts attribute the remarkable growth to the airlines’ fare policy, which was mostly targeted at keeping the ticket prices down. Besides, ruble appreciation and resumed service to Turkey, the most popular holiday destination in Russia, also seem to have facilitated the upward trend.
The passenger traffic growth is likely to continue in 2018, however, it will be less intensive, industry analysts say. The surge in demand forced the major Russian airlines to expand.
