Bayreuth technology company DESKO continues its road to success

Second record year in a row

The Bayreuth technology company DESKO closes its business year with record results for the second time in a row. Thus, the company not only recovers in a very short time from the losses in the corona year 2021, but also exceeds the sales of the fiscal years before the pandemic.

The family-run, medium-sized company develops solutions for analyzing ID documents and capturing data from chip cards, magnetic stripes or barcodes. In each of the past two fiscal years 2022 and 2023 DESKO was able to generate more than 19 million euros in revenue from the sale of these solutions. The company is growing and has expanded its team in Bayreuth as well as in the USA.

“These figures confirm our strategy. The growth is not only related to the growing demand due to higher security standards in many industries. It also shows that DESKO as a brand is internationally known and that our product quality is highly trusted,” confirms Werner Zahn, DESKO founder and managing director.

Special scanners and software produced by DESKO are mainly used in the travel industry. Due to the pandemic, the orders from this business sector stopped. DESKO was able to partially compensate that with orders from new markets. Nevertheless, the sales in the fiscal year 2021 decreased to 10.7 million euros. Against this background the economic development of the company is particularly impressive.

“During the pandemic we invested in the development of new products. This is only possible if there are corresponding reserves. The delivery crisis problems due to the pandemic and China´s zero covid strategy affect us as well. Here, we have been able to develop advantages for our customers through investments in stock, production and a clever procurement strategy, too. As one of the few companies on the market, we have already returned to regular delivery times,” explains Alexander Zahn, DESKO Managing Director.

Using this strategy has resulted in significant revenue gains in the hospitality and government sectors over the past 24 months.

In the new fiscal year which starts on April 1, 2023, DESKO invests in the expansion of its software product portfolio. New software solutions and mobile applications for identity verification will round off the product range in the future. In the hardware sector, DESKO has been setting standards internationally for decades. The company´s core competence is the OCR technology (Optical Character Recognition technology) for the recognition, capture and verification of characters, e.g. on ID documents. In combination with suitable verification software, DESKO will establish itself on the market as a full-range supplier, offering scalable solutions for every application.
