Flight movements in Swedish airspace increased by almost 3% in April compared to the same period in 2012. This represents the first month of increased traffic in over a year.
“The upswing we saw in April was predominantly due to the fact that Easter was during April in 2012 but during March this year. Thus, growth during April is in line with previous forecasts,” says LFV’s Business Analyst, Lars Ahlm.
International traffic increased by over 4% in April, whilst overflights decreased by almost 2%. Overflight traffic comprises air traffic which neither starts nor lands in Sweden. Domestic traffic, which is the category most influenced by the Easter weekend trend, increased by nearly 8%. Despite the increase in April, the total number of flight movements has decreased overall since the beginning of the year. The downturn is equal to 4% and all three categories, domestic, international and overflights, are decreasing.
The number of flight movements in March reached 58 000.
