Design and quick implementation of military infrastructure projects has once again become a main focus in Europe, following events during the past few years.
Efficient stormwater management systems in military facilities are vital, in order to maintain operations, improve functionality and protect important infrastructure and assets from changing weather conditions.
But what are some of the key requirements for linear drainage systems installed in operational areas of military facilities?
Here are some to bear in mind (equal order of priority):
- Strong, durable, ultra-heavy-duty (F 900) system design – Long-lasting installation within extreme military environments (heavy loads and dynamic forces at the surface).
- Monolithic system designs or security locking mechanisms – Avoid unwanted access within drainage systems for placement of monitoring or explosive devices.
- Safe system installation – Low F.O.D risk
- High-capacity systems with efficient interception of surface liquids – Extensive pavement areas to drain.
- Quick and simple design, installation and maintenance – Rapid construction with reduced installation and maintenance costs
- Systems and designs which contribute to environmental protection and sustainability – Military facilities are often located in rural areas.
- Quality assurance and proven performance – Engineers designing military facilities are risk-averse
- HAURATON linear drainage systems meet these requirements.
A quick example:
HAURATON Poland has worked with Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 2 S.A. for many years, providing drainage solutions for various development and renovation projects of military facilities.
The company manages one of the largest aviation plants in Poland at Bydgoszcz Airport, and is part of an elite group of companies (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa) of high strategic importance through the provision of services and support to the Polish Armed Forces.
The facility at Bydgoszcz Airport has 78 years of experience in operating, servicing and modernising military aircraft, including advanced fighter and transport aircraft.
During 2022 a new high-tech military aircraft hangar was constructed by Betpol SA (Bydgoszcz) at the site.
HAURATON supplied 120metres of strong, durable FASERFIX BIG BL linear drainage channel (100mm and 150mm widths), which has an F 900 load rating.
Channels were installed across external pavement areas, and also within the hangar building itself.
With a steel-reinforced ‘pre-cast’ concrete body, and supplied in four-metre lengths, the system was quick to install.
Another important reason for the use of FASERFIX BIG BL…this system has been extensively tested and approved by the ‘Air Force Institute of Technology’ (ITWL) in Warsaw, a leading research centre involved with military aviation technology, supervised by the Polish ‘Ministry of Defence’.
Information regarding test results is available on request.
HAURATON drainage products have been used on over 30 airport / airfield projects in Poland.
