Fewer aircraft journeys — higher passenger figures
The traffic figures for the first six months and for June show that the excellent growth in aviation traffic is continuing.

The number of aircraft journeys decreased by 1.5 per cent, but the number of plane passengers still increased by 4.3 per cent in the first six months of 2017.

“We are delighted to see such an excellent trend in Norwegian aviation, and it is great news that the airlines are having more passengers on board with fewer aircraft journeys. This means that their capacity is being used even more efficiently and is better tailored to the market”, said Dag Falk-Petersen, CEO of Avinor.

New passenger records in June
For the first time, Avinor handled more than five million passengers in one month, with 5,089,009 travellers. The biggest increase in June was seen by international traffic (plus 6.4 per cent), while domestic traffic increased by 3.2 per cent.

For the first time, Oslo Airport handled more than 2.5 million passengers (2,638,453) in one month, representing 75 per cent of the passenger growth at Avinor airports.

“It is a milestone to have exceeded the figure of 5 million passengers in one month, and we are looking forward to offering passengers an even better experience when we open the new terminal in Bergen in August. We have also recently opened the new Oslo Airport, and will soon be expanding the terminal in Tromsø, as well as implementing measures to increase the capacity in Stavanger and a number of other airports”, concluded CEO Falk-Petersen.

Continued growth in the north
Tromsø Airport and Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes both experienced strong growth in June, with 9.4 per cent and 7.8 per cent respectively.
A number of other small airports in Northern Norway experienced more than 10 per cent growth:

Hammerfest 31.0% Svolvær 20.1%
Mosjøen 17.1%
Leknes 13.8%
Mo i Rana 13.7%
