Richard, alongside other expert spokespeople, are available for interview, or can provide written comment/insights on the following:

  • CT Technology at the Checkpoint – New CT scanners being deployed at many airports worldwide are increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the security screening process, enabling passengers to leave electronics in their bags and helping security personnel to quickly identify potential threats. The Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, along with the smaller Model S version, is the world’s most trusted CT checkpoint scanner, currently in use at major travel hubs across the world including Heathrow Airport, Charles De Gaulle Airport, Fukuoka International Airport, Belfast International Airport, Munich, Frankfurt, Airport and many, many more.
    • There will be a live demonstration of the Smiths Detection HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX checkpoint scanner at the exhibition booth this year. Please, feel free to come along and see the power of advanced CT scanning technology in action.
  • iLane Automatic Tray Return The Smiths Detection’s iLane A20 has been designed to increase throughput, reduce queues and improve operational efficiency at aviation passenger checkpoints. This intelligent lane has evolved from our extensive experience in integrated checkpoints and meets the most demanding customer requirements. The latest functionality, including system performance data and health monitoring, results in a highly reliable and available system. The iLane A20 is easy to install, maintain and service – once the required modules are connected, configuration is automatic.
  • Automated Prohibited Items Detection – The Smiths Detection’s iCMORE technology uses AI-powered algorithms to automatically detect prohibited items. Considering staff shortages and increasing passenger numbers at major airports, this is a critical enabler for increased operational efficiency, throughput and security whilst also reducing operational expenditure and facilitating resource planning.
  • ‘Open Architecture’ – As part of its Ada Initiative, Smiths Detection is driving the adoption of responsible open architecture within the security environment. By integrating the ELECTORA management platform, we enable customers to centrally manage multiple technologies while maintaining a reliable, high-performance security operation.
  • X-Ray Diffraction –By analysing the molecular structure of scanned items, XRD provides unprecedented accuracy in identifying improvised explosives and dangerous goods in hold baggage and air cargo screening, safeguarding society by reducing the volume of illicit substances in circulation. It perfectly complements the strengths of CT technology and together they can take detection accuracy to even higher levels through automated alarm resolution and reduced false alarm rates. XRD is also already being lauded by customs organisations and fast forwarders for its ability to detect narcotics and other contraband goods,
  • Training – As part of its customer care, Smiths Detection offer a comprehensive programme of training courses through its Virtual Training Centre, including a new Image Interpretation Training course that equips novice and experienced screeners with the skills necessary to identify potential threats.
