Battelle is an internationally respected technical organization with a long tradition and deep commitment to helping government and airport clients select and implement the best aviation security solutions to meet their needs. We provide objective, independent, technically-based analysis and advice as well as reliable test and evaluation services to ensure that you are acquiring the right technologies to address your security challenges and that you are implementing them correctly. We also provide specialized hardware and software solutions to address unique security challenges.
For more than 20 years Battelle has supported the development, testing and characterization of aviation security technology on behalf of the U.S. Government. In fact, many of the security systems and operational procedures used across the world today were developed, tested or validated by Battelle. Our continuous role serving the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration since their formation is a tribute to our technical expertise, innovation, reliability and integrity.
Today, we offer our expertise, services and unique aviation security solutions to the international community to help governments and airport operators address their security challenges and to harmonize these solutions worldwide. We do this through a combination of aviation security training and technical services and specialized hardware and software products for liquid screening and explosive detection system solutions.

The Battelle LS10™ Liquid Threat Detection System addresses the challenging task of detecting security threats in liquids making it possible for travellers and visitors to safely carry liquids, gels and aerosols through security checkpoints.
LS10 is in use around the world. It distinguishes threat liquids from benign substances and alerts security personnel to suspicious contents quickly and accurately. The LS-10’s ergonomic design and easy-to-read display ensure that security screeners can process scans quickly with minimum training. And since the LS-10 can process all containers (plastic, glass, metal), there is no delay caused by having to process different containers differently.
LS10 is calibrated to detect threat flammables, acids, oxidizers, explosive precursors and explosive compounds in almost any container in less than five seconds. An intuitive user interface guides security personnel through each step and provides clear alert of any suspicious substance.
The LS-10 represents the ideal combination of flexibility, reliable detection, cost effectiveness and operational efficiency to meet the challenging demands of airport security screening applications.

Explosives Detection System Acceptance Testing
Verif-IQ™ protects airport security screening system investments by providing an internationally recognized, standardized and empirical means to verify the operational suitability of newly acquired CT EDS systems during factory and site acceptance testing, and by providing a means to verify compliance with government regulations through regular performance testing that produces auditable results.
Verif IQ will also reduce operational costs due to unanticipated Computed Tomography (CT) Explosive Detection System (EDS) downtime and unnecessary preventive maintenance by providing a means to track the status of CT EDS through performance over time trend analysis to anticipate failures before they occur and to optimize maintenance activity.

Security Screener Training
Battelle’s ProDetect™ Security Screener Training is an interactive, web-based training system for aviation security screeners. Battelle’s two decades of aviation security research enabled us to create the most advanced training available for security personnel conducting screening at airport checkpoints and cargo processing facilities. ProDetect is unique in providing realistic, volumetric (3D) images for screener training to simulate images such as they see every day. ProDetect’s unique IED Builder feature allows screeners to virtually build improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for display as a photo and an X-ray image during training.
ProDetect sharpens screener performance thus enhancing traveler safety and ensuring that security managers achieve the desired threat detection capability from their CT EDS investments.

Digital Imaging and Communications in Security
Digital Imaging and Communication Security (DICOS) is a security industry standard developed by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and now maintained by the Association of Electrical Equipment and Medical Imaging Manufacturers (NEMA) as the standard for Computed Tomography (CT) explosive detection systems (EDS) and other technologies used for security screening. Battelle provides DICOS-based system engineering and integration services for airports and other security operators to maximize the security and operational benefits of this revolutionary standard.
