  • Stand 417 Posi Charger Installation

The aim of this project was to install 5 x 50 kWh DC Posicharge MVS 400’s, creating tug charging bays at stand 417 within Heathrow Airport.

Instead of installing a new power supply at stand 417, Freemantle proposed a newly designed cable route to run form the opposite stand 416.

Within the Distribution board of stand 416 there was a redundant 63A, 3phase way. Our proposal was to use the redundant 63Amp way in order to supply the power to the Posichargers at stand 417.

Freemantle installed a 60 meter hot dipped galvanised containment route, within it, was a 50mm 4 core cable. The route ran along the underside of the crossing bridge that connected the two stands. The containment was fixed via Unistrut, requiring the use of MEWP equipment, to reach the underside of the bridge.

Freemantle had to undertake groundwork in order to install the protective barriers in front of the Chargers, this was completed to protect the chargers from both, the tugs that would be using the system and the Ground Support Equipment that would be operating in that area.

This project demanded a high level of traffic management, due to the frequency the gates were used by Ground Support Equipment.
