- It is vitally important to ensure that testing catches carriers with no symptoms and low viral loads, many tests do not do this such as antibody tests that pick up antibodies in the blood in cases after having had COVID-19 and antigen tests that are only 80% sensitive and so miss 20% of potential cases.
- Global clinicians agree that it is crucial to use WHO Gold Standard tests when screening testing such as RT-PCR and RT-LAMP as these are the only tests suitable for screening due to their high degree of accuracy. RT-PCR requires an offsite lab and so is much slower than RT-LAMP like FRANKD that can get on site results in 30 mins.

The Science behind FRANKD
Loop-Mediated Isothermal DNA Amplification (LAMP)
Isothermal amplification chemistry has been applied to viral diagnostics for several years with great success. This type of technology is utilised in several commercial molecular diagnostic platforms, serving large testing centres and point-of-care markets globally.
The FRANKD SARS-CoV-2 isothermal detection kit, is a kit designed for in vitro identification of the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in a single reaction. The FRANKD patented Bst isothermal fusion polymerase and specific primers are the core innovations enabling FRANKD to be so sensitive and specific and rapid in identifying SARS-CoV-2. The primers are 100% compatible with the SARS-CoV-2 genomic RNA sequence specific to gene S deposited in the NCBI database. Amplification of targeted nucleic acids is observed by an increase of ﬂuorescence signal during reaction.
How is FRANKD Different from Standard RT-PCR Tests?
Standard RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests require RNA purification of the sample prior to testing. FRANKD does not need this step.
RT-PCR tests require thermocycle conditions (i.e. the hot/cold cycles of the PCR process). In contrast FRANKD is a LAMP (Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification) reaction test, hence it works at a constant temperature. This saves time, since PCR machines take time to heat and cool the reagents.
FRANKD uses a patented DNA polymerase fused with NeqSSB protein which binds to single stranded nucleic acids. This has been proven to increase the processivity of the enzyme and specificity of the test. Hence the test is both fast and very specific (100% specificity in lab tests). In addition the FRANKD patented enzyme is resistant to inhibitors which can be present in surgical swabs, hence the risk of false-negatives in non-lab real-world environments is reduced.
Positive FRANKD results are provided by the detection of fluorescence of intercalating dyes that emit light when bound to DNA, as a result of the amplification process.
