Voigtlaender 3 Chamber Generator: Advanced Electrochemical Water Disinfection for Modern Industry
The Voigtlaender 3-Chamber Generator is a breakthrough in efficient and sustainable water disinfection. Designed to meet the hygiene, safety, and operational demands of industries such as beverage production, pharmaceuticals, and airports, this innovative system delivers powerful disinfection while significantly reducing water, energy, and service costs.
At the heart of the system is the electrochemical disinfection unit, which uses membrane electrolysis to generate a potent disinfectant solution from just salt, water, and electricity. It produces a chlorinated solution with a concentration of 160 to 200 milligrams per liter of free chlorine. For the first application, “aircraft drinking water disinfection,” the produced medium is added to the aircraft drinking water at a concentration of 0.8 – 1.0 mg/l. In the second application, the tankers used to fill the aircraft are disinfected with a concentration of approximately 8 mg/l.
The primary disinfecting agent is hypochlorous acid, or HOCl, a highly effective and environmentally responsible solution that is up to 200 times more powerful than conventional chlorine compounds.
The Voigtlaender system operates through a fully automated closed loop setup that includes the generator, brine tank, high pressure circulation pump, and multiple storage and application tanks. With real time monitoring and minimal need for manual oversight, it offers seamless integration into existing facilities. Application points include CIP cleaning processes, filler hygiene, bottle and surface cleaning, and disinfection of both process and product water.
One of the standout benefits of the Voigtlaender solution is its sustainability and cost efficiency. Users typically achieve up to 100 percent reduction in purchased disinfection chemicals, 75 percent faster CIP cycles, 50 percent water savings, and 50 percent energy savings thanks to the use of cold water in place of traditional heated rinses. In most cases, the return on investment is reached within 12 to 36 months.
Unlike traditional systems that rely on hazardous chemical inputs such as chlorine tablets, ozone, or peracetic acid, Voigtlaender’s method is based on Electrolytically Activated Solutions. This natural approach transforms simple ingredients into powerful disinfectants without the need for handling dangerous chemicals. It is ideal for industries that must meet the highest hygiene standards while prioritizing staff safety and environmental responsibility.
The underlying technology relies on a process called membrane electrolysis. Within the electrolysis cell, ion exchange membranes separate the anode and cathode chambers while a concentrated salt solution flows through the center. This design ensures the efficient generation of HOCl while preventing cross contamination of ions. The result is a stable disinfectant solution that retains its potency for up to 72 hours.
HOCl is particularly effective because it penetrates microbial cell membranes more easily than other forms of chlorine, making it highly efficient in biofilm removal and surface disinfection. It delivers consistent results across a range of applications without the risks or complexity of conventional methods.
With a compact design, durable components, and modular scalability, the Voigtlaender 3 Chamber Generator is a forward-looking solution for any industry seeking smarter, safer, and cleaner water management.
