Haikou Meilan International Airport

Haikou Meilan International Airport is the airport serving Haikou, the capital of Hainan Province, China. It is located 25 kilometres southeast of the city center and was opened in 1999, replacing the old Dayingshan Airport located along what is now the city’s Guoxin.

Haikou Meilan International Airport was formally opened to navigation on May 25, 1999 and listed in Hong Kong in November 2002. At present, it has grown to be an important and major airport in China. Covering an area of 1140ha, the airport is rated as Grade 4E with 3600m-long and 45m-wide runways. The 3600m-long and 23m-wide parallel taxiway can satisfy the demands of full-weight taking-off and landing of such large airplanes as Boeing 747-400. Exiting terminals of the Haikou Meilan International Airport cover an area of nearly 150,000sqm, while the station site occupies an area of 790,000sqm (including two bases) with 67 parking bays.

Haikou Meilan International Airport became the first set up with an offshore island duty-free shop in China on December 21, 2011. The shop is located at the isolation area of the terminal building in the Airport with an approved area of 30,546 sqm now. The shop has been approved to offer 45 kinds of duty-free commodities from over 400 internationally renowned high-end brands mainly of cosmetics, watches, bags and suitcases, perfume, clothes and garments, glasses (including sunglasses), wine, electronic products,, etc.
