Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport will by the end of 2023 record more than seven million passengers, which is a record result, surpassing the number of passengers from 2019. The seven millionth passenger was welcomed at the check-in counters at the new Terminal 2 Belgrade Airport CEO, François Berisot and Air Serbia COO, Milan Malović, who presented Ms. Aleksandra Kandić from Valjevo with a gift – a voucher for a free return trip for the destination of choice. Ms. Kandić traveled on a national carrier Air Serbia flight to Lisbon.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome more than 7 million passengers this year, especially considering the fact that we surpassed the record of 6.2 million passengers in the pre-pandemic 2019. This result was largely contributed by Air Serbia, which also recorded a record number this year passengers and new routes, as well as significant traffic of other partner airlines. The dynamic recovery of traffic and continuous works on expansion, modernization and capacity increase show that we are well on our way to making our airport a key hub in our region. I congratulate Ms. Kandić, I hope that this gift-trip will bring her a lot of good memories,” said Francois Berisot, Belgrade airport CEO.
“Nikola Tesla Airport is our home base and a vital hub from which Air Serbia passengers travel for a large number of destinations to which we fly from Belgrade. Seven million passengers have used the airport’s services so far in 2023, and more than half of them flew with Air Serbia. Hence the desire to celebrate this success together. I congratulate the Belgrade Airport on the achieved result, and I wish Ms. Kandic who today received two airline tickets from us to the city of his choice from the Air Serbia network have a pleasant stay at the chosen destination,” said Milan Malović, Air Serbia COO.
In the first nine months of this year, the airport hosted 42 percent more passengers compared to last year and 25 percent more than in the same period of 2019. In the same period, more than 62,000 flights were made, i.e. 26 percent more than the previous year and 15 percent more than in the same period of 2019.
Since the beginning of the concession in 2019, the Belgrade airport has significantly increased operational capacity at all key points (expanded and upgraded terminal, new runway, expanded platform, new road system, new parking lots, solar farm, new heating plant and additional environmental facilities), and the largest number of improvements was presented during 2023. The positive trend of expansion and modernization will be continued with the construction of new capacities and facilities in the departure area, while the completion of all key modernization works is expected in the first quarter of 2024. All this will enable the Belgrade airport to reach a total capacity of 15 million passengers per year by the end of the concession period.
