Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is investing in future jobs by kicking off stage two of its Airport Industrial Park. The construction phase will generate 440+ positions.  Once completed, the Stage 2 precinct will be home to 1400+ direct jobs and thousands more indirect positions.

BAC will start civil works for a 26.5-hectare industrial land site this month, to meet the growing demand for industrial operations at Brisbane Airport.

Martin Ryan, BAC Executive General Manager Commercial, said the development demonstrated the strength of the Brisbane Airport precinct as the home for industry in South East Queensland.

“The demand for well-connected industrial sites is the highest it has been in decades,” he said. “Businesses increasingly want premium, high-amenity sites that have been developed with sustainability top of mind, which also allow 24/7 operational capacity. That is exactly what we offer here at Brisbane Airport.”

The rise of e-commerce and logistics businesses through the pandemic, as well as existing tenants increasing their warehousing and office sites at Brisbane Airport, has combined to put the current available industrial precincts near capacity.

Airport Industrial Park spans more than 100 hectares as a master-planned site for industrial use.

Brisbane Airport is home to more than 425 businesses, where more than 24,000 people are employed, a number that is expected to grow to 60,000 in 2050. These jobs generate wages totalling more than $1.5 billion.

Companies on the precinct include Direct Couriers, which recently doubled its warehousing capacity at Brisbane Airport, plus Miele Australia, Downer, DHL, Australia Post, and The Pool Tile Company.

BAC is also set to deliver a $72 million Queensland Regional Aeromedical Base, scheduled for completion in 2024.

Mr Ryan said the flexibility of around-the-clock operations was critical to strength and ongoing operations of hundreds of businesses and employees at Brisbane Airport.

“We are proud to have some of Australia’s most innovative companies that provide services to millions of consumers and other businesses across Queensland and northern NSW,” Mr Ryan said. “Our unparalleled transport links and development flexibility makes operations more efficient and productive for our tenants.

“We look forward to welcoming a new range of businesses to the precinct when the second stage of Airport Industrial Park is developed.”

Civil earth works for Airport Industrial Park stage two will start in July 2022, ready for development in 2025.

BAC is guiding the responsible development of one of Queensland’s largest mixed-use sites, with 2,700-hectares of landholdings at Brisbane Airport.
