Brussels Airport opens new parking facility with 650 charging points and 6,000m² of solar panels

New parking facility will serve as a central location for car hire services, within walking distance of the terminal

A new parking tower has been inaugurated at Brussels Airport, directly opposite the current drop-off zone. The building offers more than 2,500 parking spaces for both car rental companies and airport community staff. The parking facility is within walking distance of the terminal, covers an area of 90,000 m², and has eight floors. Its construction placed a strong emphasis on sustainable electrification and circularity.

The new parking facility will be in use from Sunday 29th March. Until recently, vehicles of car hire companies were located in Parking 2, right in front of the departures hall. These will now be relocated to the new facility. Service points and offices, previously situated in the arrivals hall, are also being relocated. As a result, all car rental services will now be centralised in one location, offering travellers a significantly more convenient experience.

6,000 m² of solar panels and 650 charging points

During the preparatory works, the former parking area on the site was first demolished, with a focus on circularity. Through selective demolition, most materials were recovered or reused, including on other sites within the airport area. In addition to the circular approach to demolition, sustainable technologies were also used in the development of the new building. 6,000 m² of solar panels have been installed on the roof, generating 1,150 MWh per year. A special non-reflective film has been applied to the solar panels to prevent the glare from the sun affecting visibility for the pilots. In total, 650 charging points for electric vehicles will also be installed. ​

With this new parking facility, Brussels Airport is taking a concrete step within Hub 3.0, the investment project designed to prepare the airport infrastructure for the future. The centralisation of car hire companies creates space for the future expansion of the arrivals hall and the development of an intermodal hub, where different modes of transport (train, tram, bus, bicycle, and car) will be optimally integrated. In a next phase, a pedestrian bridge will also be constructed to directly connect the car park with the terminal. ​
