Consolidation and modernization works of the Arrivals Parking Lot – "Henri Coandă" Airport

• The Arrivals parking lot remains open only on the ground floor (142 spaces); the upper floors are temporarily closed.
• Buses 100 and 442 no longer stop at the Arrivals station.
• The ride-sharing pickup area is moving to the Departures terminal.

The National Airports Company of Bucharest has begun work to modernize and consolidate the multi-storey car park in front of the Arrivals Terminal of “Henri Coandă” Airport.

Built in 2003, the parking lot currently shows significant deterioration, both in terms of the structure, the upper layers and the facades. Also, all the finishes, both interior and exterior, on the ceiling, pillars and floor, are physically worn out, being partially damaged, especially due to rainwater infiltration.

Considering the technical expertise report evaluating the building, the order was given to start the consolidation and modernization works, which will last 10 months.

Thus, the building’s foundations will be strengthened, connecting beams will be built in these foundations, the vertical structural elements will be fully sheathed, metal frames equipped with shock absorbers will be added to the central assemblies. Also, the waterproofing, finishing and facade elements will be restored. At the same time, the electrical installations, piping, and rainwater drainage will be restored.

The work will be carried out in stages, to minimize passenger discomfort.

In the first phase, which begins on Thursday, April 23, the two upper levels of the parking lot will be closed, with passengers having the ground floor area available to park their vehicles. However, given the limited number of parking spaces at Arrivals, we recommend that passengers park in the parking lot near the Departures terminal.

Starting Thursday, 00:00, the ride-sharing pickup area will move to “Departures”, according to the indications that alternative transport companies will provide on the passenger pickup map. The area was identified and approved in collaboration with representatives of alternative transport companies.

Starting today, April 22, buses of lines 100 and 442 will no longer stop at “Arrivals”. Until the works are completed, the vehicles of the two public transport lines will stop exclusively at the common “Departures” station at the airport. The measure was taken following discussions with STB representatives.

The taxi rank remains in front of the “Arrivals” terminal.

“Henri Coandă” Airport currently has 2,226 parking spaces in public parking lots. After the closure of the two levels of the “Arrivals” parking lot, 400 spaces will be unavailable.

To supplement parking capacity, a new parking lot will be put into use at the end of the year, providing 1,019 spaces for passengers. The new parking lot is located near the “Arrivals” building and will be organized on 4 levels.
