The National Airports Company of Bucharest received four offers for the design and execution of the photovoltaic park that will be built in the vicinity of Runway No. 2 of the “Henri Coandă” International Airport of Bucharest, as well as for its connection to the airport’s power plant.
The project implementation aims to cover at least 70% of its annual consumption from renewable sources. The project aims to create an integrated and unitary solution that will meet both the current electricity consumption of the “Henri Coandă” Airport and the future developments of the airport infrastructure, by gradually increasing the production and storage capacities of energy from renewable sources.
“This project represents an essential step in the accelerated modernization process of Henri Coandă Bucharest International Airport. Investments in the production of energy from renewable sources directly contribute to increasing the airport’s energy autonomy, reducing operating costs, integrating it into a complex monitoring and control system, while also reducing the impact on the environment,” said Bogdan Mîndrescu, general manager of the Bucharest National Airports Company.
The photovoltaic park will be strategically located, in the vicinity of Runway No. 2 of the airport, in an area in the public domain of the state and administered by CNAB, on which terminals or hangars cannot be built.
For the implementation of the project, a reflection study will be conducted so that the panels are positioned without affecting the visibility of pilots during takeoff and landing or the operation of aeronautical equipment. They will also have a reduced height regime, so as not to influence air navigation.
The installation will include 19,095 monocrystalline photovoltaic panels, each with a nominal power of 660 W, mounted on fixed galvanized metal structures, facing south.
The energy complex will be connected to the airport’s power plant, will have a total power of 31.5 MW and will be equipped with a storage system with a capacity of 30 MWh. The project will be built in two stages. The first stage provides for an installed production capacity of 12.6 MW, with storage of 17.88 MWh.
The estimated value of the contract is 134,614,800 lei.
For this stage, the National Airports Company of Bucharest submitted the project for financing under the program “Supporting investments in new renewable electricity production capacities for aerodromes’ self-consumption, including energy storage systems”, financed from the Modernization Fund and managed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The financing contract has already been signed, and the eligible amount is 132,044,800 lei.
The design and execution of the energy complex will be completed in a maximum of 18 months.
The implementation of Stage 1 constitutes the first concrete step of the strategic project that will ensure, in the medium and long term, both the reduction of carbon emissions and the maintenance of operational safety and continuity for the national critical infrastructure of “Henri Coandă” Airport.
The four offers are:
1) PannonWatt Energetiaki Megoldások Zrt, with third parties/subcontractors Gridserv Proiect and Energy and Environmental Consulting Company.
2) LSG Building Solutions, Demcar 2000 and the Institute of Research and Production in Electrotechnics ICPE Electrocond Technologies, with subcontractors Geocad Services, Enterprise for Energy Studies and Research, Facility360 Hub, Eninvest Holding Realto, LSG Building Solutions GmbH, airsight GmbH.
3) Electro-Alfa International and General Me.El Electric.
