Five modules down. Movement of the next set of five modules is underway.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) initiated Phase 2 of its ambitious Concourse D Widening Project on the morning of 15th January, when Module 6 was transported from the modular yard and attached to Concourse D. Four more module moves are scheduled to take place by January 31.

The release of the first set of modules on Sept. 4, 2024, completed Phase 1 of the project. The project, which is slated to finish in the summer of 2029, will have 19 modules attached to the existing structure.

Once completed, the modernized Concourse D will have:

  • Larger hold rooms (gate areas) twice their original size, with increased seating of 6,400
  • Corridor width expanded by 29 feet
  • Ceiling height raised by 18 feet
  • 75% increase in boarding level square footage
  • New restrooms twice their original size
  • New building systems
  • 34 aircraft positions for Group III aircraft (eight fewer due to greater capacity of larger jets)
