Kansai International Airport T1 Renovation: New domestic area opened!

Kansai Airports is pleased to announce that the new domestic area was opened on October 26, a part of Terminal 1 building of Kansai International Airport (KIX) which is currently undergoing renovation work.

In conjunction with the opening of the new domestic area, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held with representatives from KIX, including Representative Director CEO Yoshiyuki Yamaya, Representative Director Co-CEO Benoit Rulleau.

In the new domestic area, the commercial area after the security inspection will be greatly expanded with the opening of six shops with a rich Kansai flavor (4 restaurants and 2 retail shops) and a domestic flight lounge accessible to eligible passengers. The area will be transformed into an attractive space where customers can enjoy shopping, dining and other activities while waiting for boarding.

Kansai Airports Group will continue to work on projects that will excite our customers, and to strengthen the functions of KIX, a gateway to the Kansai region that welcomes domestic and international customers, while putting priorities on safety and security.

  • 6 stores opened in the airside (F&B: 4, retail: 2)
  • New domestic lounge opened * For passengers eligible to access ANA and JAL lounges

Future schedule

  • Winter 2023: Opening of new international commercial area
  • Spring 2025: Grand opening (major functions completed)
  • Autumn 2026: New international commercial area expanded

The Phase 2 construction, which includes the development of the new international departure area, began in July of this year as planned, without waiting for Phase 1 to be completed.

In addition, a part of the replacement and the seismic upgrades (Phase 3) of elevators and escalators, which are related to customer convenience, safety, and security, as well as the renovation of the AGT station (Wing Shuttle) will be carried out in Phase 2 ahead of schedule in order to prepare for future international traffic recovery.
