London City Airport has welcomed Luxair’s new-generation Embraer E195-E2, bringing increased capacity, improved fuel efficiency and reduced aircraft noise to the airport’s route connecting London and Luxembourg.

The aircraft made its debut at London City Airport on Monday, 12 October, operating a Luxair service from Luxembourg. With approximately 136 seats, the E195-E2 will increase capacity on the route linking the two European financial centres, supporting business travel, visiting friends and relatives, and leisure demand.

The E195-E2 is the largest aircraft currently operating at London City Airport. Its introduction demonstrates how next-generation aircraft can increase capacity while addressing the operational and environmental considerations associated with airport operations in densely populated urban areas.

According to the airport, the aircraft’s noise footprint at take-off is around 60% smaller than that of existing jet aircraft such as the Embraer E190. Its improved fuel efficiency and reduced noise levels offer potential benefits for both airport operations and surrounding communities.

Andy Cliffe, CEO of London City Airport, said: “We’re excited to welcome Luxair’s new-generation E195-E2 to London City Airport. The aircraft is a strong demonstration of Luxair’s continued commitment both to London City Airport and to connecting two important European districts.

“By bringing increased capacity and a modern, quieter aircraft to the route, Luxair is helping us strengthen connectivity alongside our continued focus on a more sustainable future for aviation.”

Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair, said the London City route had been an important part of the airline’s network for more than two decades, highlighting its role in connecting two major European financial centres. He added that the introduction of the E195-E2 would provide additional capacity, a quieter cabin and greater passenger comfort, including a two-by-two seating configuration with no middle seats.

The E195-E2 is the latest generation of Embraer’s E-Jets family, combining the flexibility of a regional aircraft with the capacity and efficiency required to serve markets where larger aircraft may be less suited to demand or operational requirements.

Marie Louise Philippe, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing at Embraer, said the aircraft’s arrival at London City demonstrated its capabilities in efficiency, emissions reduction, noise performance and passenger comfort, enabling airlines to connect key European markets while improving operational performance.

Luxair operates up to 31 flights per week on the London City route, with the E195-E2 being introduced on selected services. To mark the aircraft’s introduction, passengers travelling on flight LG4594 from London City to Luxembourg on 12 October were welcomed with champagne, lunch and goody bags before boarding.

The arrival adds capacity to London City Airport’s European network while highlighting the role of newer-generation aircraft in supporting connectivity at airports operating within the constraints of urban environments.
