National Airports Company of Bucharest Awards Contract to Design New Terminal at "Henri Coandă" Bucharest International Airport

The National Airports Company of Bucharest has signed the contract for the award of the largest and most complex airport infrastructure project in Romania: the design of the new terminal of the “Henri Coandă” Bucharest International Airport and the related airport infrastructure.

The construction of the new terminal of “Henri Coandă” Airport will be completed in 3 and a half years, and the design will take a maximum of 2 years.

The main objective of the contract is the design of the new passenger terminal, with an area of ​​approximately 176,000 sq m, which will accommodate a traffic forecast for 2040 of approximately 30 million passengers/year (passenger traffic at peak times will be able to reach 6,500 passengers/hour).

The new terminal’s facilities will be comparable to those of major European airports:
– a minimum of 48 new aircraft parking stands;
– a minimum of 20 boarding bridges;
– modern baggage belt systems (arrivals and departures);
– modern security control equipment;
– state-of-the-art passenger information and intuitive signage systems;
– ambient lighting, optimal acoustics and efficient air conditioning;
– protocol lounges for airline customers;
– various retail and food & beverages areas, sized to achieve the “IATA Optimum Level of Service”.

The new terminal will be intended for both legacy airlines and low-cost operators, which will have a special boarding/disembarkation area.

The aircraft will have several modern taxiways, built on a new airport infrastructure.

The terminal will have multimodal connectivity: road and rail, with new stations for public passenger transport, buses and taxis.

A complex network of access roads will also be built in the landside and airside areas, to ensure road connections, with roads and underground passages, between the current terminal and the future terminal.

The winning consortium is Leviatan Design Association (leader), Ubitech Construction (associate), with subcontractors/third parties/bidders Petrodesign, Pintilie Partners Architecture Engineering, Instal Data Proiect, Start SRL, Triptic Architecture & Engineering, Vital Proiect, EPC – Environmental Consultancy, Raluca Șerban Environmental Consultancy and Profesional Construct Proiectare.

The value of design and technical assistance services is approximately 18.4 million euros.

The contract covers a period of 10.5 years, as follows:
– 2 years – design,
– 3.5 years – technical assistance during the construction of the terminal,
– 5 years – technical assistance during the warranty period of the works.
