‘Aeroporti di Roma welcomes the innovative development vision outlined by Minister Matteo Salvini in his preview of the new National Airports Plan, presented at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The Plan confirms the central importance of the Sustainable Development Masterplan for Rome Fiumicino Airport and the fourth runway, already endorsed by the Fiumicino local authorities following an in-depth review of the project carried out in recent years by ENAC and ADR.
Now, to ensure the timely implementation of the necessary measures in a context of significant growth, it is essential to accelerate the authorisation process, which will primarily involve the Ministry of the Environment, given the current global context and the project’s undoubted national strategic importance. This is, in fact, a significant step for the future of Italy’s leading airport, as well as a forward-looking strategic decision that recognises the role of the country’s main airport asset as an essential driver of international competitiveness.
Thanks to the new structure of Rome Fiumicino Airport, Italy will be able to continue competing globally with the major hubs and secure a central position within the European transport system that the geopolitical context demands at this historic moment.’
