Prague Airport expands measures to improve EES processing and border controls

Václav Havel Airport Prague is introducing further measures to improve the processing of passengers arriving from non-Schengen destinations as the European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES) is introduced.

The airport is working with the Czech Police and Ministry of the Interior to improve passenger flows through border control and increase the number of passengers successfully completing the EES registration process.

A dedicated airport “Red Team” is permanently deployed in the border-control area to manage passenger flows and assist travellers, including elderly passengers, families and passengers with reduced mobility. Prague Airport is also using heatmap analysis and 30-day forecasts of expected non-Schengen arrivals to identify periods when additional capacity and staff will be required.

The airport is working with the Immigration Police to provide additional passport-control capacity during peak periods, while multilingual information screens and floor signage are being expanded to help passengers navigate the process. Information is being provided in additional languages, including Hebrew and Chinese.

Prague Airport is also focusing on the use of EES self-service kiosks. Staff are being trained to identify why passengers have been unable to complete registration and provide assistance where required. The airport aims to increase the proportion of passengers successfully completing EES registration from around 60% to 80%.

The measures build on a wider programme of investment in border-control infrastructure at Terminal 1. Prague Airport previously announced plans for five additional passport-control desks and four EasyGoGate self-service gates, with the expanded facilities scheduled for completion in April 2027.

The airport is also working with airlines to ensure passengers receive information about EES requirements before arriving in Prague, with the aim of reducing delays at border control and improving the overall passenger experience.
